These photos were taken during sessions where there were no more than 10 surfers out at Playa Zicatela.
The first shot was taken by Jeff Flindt during a gnarly early-season swell. Couldn’t believe how well he could swim taking 10-foot bombs on the head. The image was run as a two-page spread in Surfing magazine.
The other three shots were taken by local photographers during the late season. There was this crazy swine flu that scared everyone out of Mexico. I swear I was one of the only gringos left in the entire country. Scored some epic surf during that swine-flu epidemic. Puerto is so mental!
