This short trip to La Jolla happens to coincide with the annual WindanSea Fall Classic Ted Smith Memorial surf contest. Stoked to see a ton of friends and hang with them all day at the beach.
Even though the surf was really small, the conditions were perfect and everyone had a good time.
Was stoked to make the final, where I got smoked in 4th place by “junior giant killa'” Skip Mccullough, who did three huge airs after rail turn combo’s to take the win, 2nd place 6-time superheat “Randyland” champion – Randy Lind, and “eye of the tiger surf-machine power house” Ian Rotgans who placed 3rd. Young shredder Tanner Ford, and veteran “dominate on any kind of board under my feet” Michael Myers were also surfing really well and completed the stacked final.
The girls had an awesome final with “super grom phenom” Tiare Thompson (I coach her during the summer) taking the win. All the girls surfed so good, and their final was one of the best heats of the day.
Was great to catch up with everyone and try to out-shred each other at the stomping grounds. Always good to celebrate someones life with a positive event that brings the community together.
Thanks to Randy, Club President Tim Graham, and awesome aloha Ozstar for making it happen, and to all the judges and beach marshals who donated their time prepping and producing the fun event. Ted would have be stoked.
