Windansea Wins Malibu!

July 18th, 2013

Just got back from an awesome weekend surfing for the Windansea Surf Club in the Call To The Wall Malibu Surf Club contest. It was such a fun weekend with our Windansea family, and the surf was epic!

Windansea Surf Club members, including Joel Tudor, finished in the top three in every division. Winning the paddleboard race was an energy packed highlight.

Couldn’t believe I got to surf perfect, empty, head-high Malibu. I rode a new quad fish Michael Russo at Rusty shaped and it worked crazy good all the way through the final. Stoked we won!

Derek Dunfee

Took these shots of Derek Dunfee the same day as the last few posts. Lucky to get such good conditions while I was down there.

At A Distance

June 28th, 2013

Psyched to get some shots of my good childhood friend Derek Dunfee on this trip. Took these with a fisheye, so the wave looks really far away, but figure they’re different than most of my recent images which is why I posted them.

Linking Up

June 23rd, 2013

Surfing is hard, and so is shooting it in the water, which is why linking-up a great surf image is so rewarding. Here are a couple sequences that didn’t link up.

Sequence 2 – Wipeout off the drop.

Over The Shoulder

June 23rd, 2013

Took these of my friend Derek Dunfee riding barrel that broke pretty far away and inside of me, but actually like the over-the-shoulder view.

John Maher Puerto Escondido Tube

June 21st, 2013

I don’t just shoot photos, I surf too :) Stoked to find one of my waves on video the other day. Borrowed my friend Jojo Roper’s 9’0 Rusty quad-fin this session and it worked great.

Figured if I don’t post these images now, they’ll probably get lost on an external hard drive forever.

Caught Inside

June 19th, 2013

With so many shifting peaks, it’s tough to stay in the tube zone at Puerto Escondido. I get caught inside a lot, which is very tiresome. Before I get slammed by the lip, figure I might as well try to get a unique image out of the situation. Most of the shot’s I take while getting caught inside come out bunk, but thought these handful tell a cool story about where each surfer is heading.

Pat Shaughnessy

June 16th, 2013

Pat Shaughnessy was the first surfer in the water, by himself, and way out the back when this gem came straight to him. He did his best to negotiate the shockwave and foamball, but eventually broke his board down the line. 20 minutes later he swam out and bodysurfed while I shot photos for three more hours.

Travis Payne

Met Travis Payne on this trip. He’s an awesome dude who works as a Paramedic in the Bay area, and gets shacked with mad steez!
