Playa Colorado holds the best surf and most beautiful beaches in Nicaragua.

Located on a lush private estate known as Hacienda Iguana, Playa Colorado offers great waves, adventure, security, and relaxation that provides the ultimate vacation for surfers and families alike.

Enjoy surfing a variety of peaks and reef breaks up and down the beach, with offshore wind blowing open good barrels all day, everyday – a unique wind pattern found only in the southern region of Nicaragua.

Select Beachfront Houses:

Stay in one of a handful of comfortable beach houses sitting on the private beach of Playa Colorado, directly in front of the surf.

In-between surf sessions, cool off in the infinity pool with a refreshing beverage as you watch perfect waves peel up and down the beautiful white sand beach.

Beachfront houses sleep up to 14 people in private and double occupancy rooms, and all share a spacious living area and kitchen.

Houses come furnished with high quality satellite televisions, sound systems with iPod hookups, and other creature comforts. The showers pump out high pressure hot water, which is uncommon just about anywhere else in Nicaragua. Maid and pool service is also included.

Beach Condo:

Hacienda Iguana also offers comfortable and spacious luxury condominiums that sit near the river, set back roughly 100 meters from the beach at Playa Colorado.

The ocean and river views from all of the two and three bedroom condos are beautiful, allowing for surf checks from the open decks.

Condos also come with quality furnishings, large kitchens, high pressure hot water showers, two bathrooms, flat screen televisions, iPod jack sound systems, and sleep up to 7 people comfortably.

Hacienda Iguana also holds the only maintained golf course in all of Nicaragua.

The Surf:

The surf at Playa Colorado is world-class. Since the beach and surf is only accessible by those staying at Hacienda Iguana, or by the few surfers who get dropped off by boats or take lengthy walks from neighboring beaches – the surf and beach remain unspoiled so you can always find a peak all to yourself.

There’s a good chance you’ll get the best barrel of your life right in front of your house and friends.

Surf Variety:

The beach at Playa Colorado has a variety of surf spots including reef and beach breaks that have something to offer surfers of all abilities.

There’s always a great spot to learn how to surf on your own, or with a talented and gracious surf instructor.

The beach at Playa Colorado is great for the entire family, surfers and beach lovers alike.

If a big swell is running and the surf in front of your house is more hollow and powerful than you care to ride, simply take a two minute walk up the beach to find more playful conditions.

If you continue another five minutes up the beach, you’ll come to a really fun reef break called Ponga Drops. Ponga Drops is a good peak that offers long lefts and rights suitable for all surfing levels.

Stand-up Paddle and Kayak Options:

The clean, clear, and warm river running onto the beach at Playa Colorado (forming good sandbars), is three kilometers long and provides a great place for stand-up paddling and kayaking. Up the river you’ll see large iguanas, song birds, and curious monkeys swinging from the trees over head.

The surf in front of the river mouth is some of the best in the world.

Wildlife Walks and Horseback Riding:

There’s an easy walking trail that hugs the river, if you care to take an adventurous stroll off the beautiful beach.

The path is great for a cool walk in the shade with friends and the kids. There’s a small village up the trial with a nice local community that offers horseback riding along the jungle trails and beach.

Transportation and Airport Transfers:

We’re there for your arrival in Managua with a nice new air-conditioned van to take you on the 2 to 3 hour ride to your beach house at Playa Colorado.

If you feel like taking a trip outside of Hacienda Iguana, rides with knowledgeable drivers can be easily arranged to check out neighboring beaches, new waves, cultural areas, communities, and anywhere else you like to go along the rustic 4×4 dirt roads.

There are many incredible natural and cultural sights to see if you feel like venturing outside of Hacienda Iguana. Checkout red-hot lava flows, hike volcano islands in the giant lake that are teeming with wildlife, visit historic towns for shopping and sight seeing, and so much more.

Boat Trips:

Boat trips are a great option and recommended to all surfers to satisfy a complete trip. A new canopy covered ponga boat with powerful 4 stroke engine will pick you up right in front of your house and take you to some incredible secret surf spots, to go deep-sea fishing, or to visit beautiful beaches around each lush point.

The views from the boat trips are incredible because most of the land surrounding Playa Colorado is untouched and inaccessible by car.

Playa Colorado is a surf photographers dream. With hollow waves breaking so close to shore, photographers and spectators can get amazingly close front row views of the action.

Packages come complete with surf a photographer who ensures you get awesome photos of your surf sessions.

Feast on as many delicious lobster tails, grilled fish, ceviche, fresh local fruit, savory deserts, and a variety of other local favorites served throughout the day by the talented cook included with your beach house or condo.

Playa Colorado is one of the most consistent surf spots on the planet, offering good waves year round, but is biggest during the summer months (April – October) when south swells are strongest.

The water and air is warm year round.

This was hands-down one of the best trips I have ever experienced and definitely the best surf trip I’ve done. From pre-planning and throughout our time in Nicaragua, John and Sebastian looked after every detail with such professionalism and thoroughness to ensure that our adventure was fun, safe, and smooth. These guys were incredibly helpful in the water with constant tips and attentiveness to improve my surfing skills and understanding of the waves and breaks – always throwing tons of support, shaka’s, thumbs up, and high fives. By the end, I felt significantly more comfortable and confident in a variety of waves and conditions.

The restorative and strengthening yoga with Sebastian saved us and recharged our bodies to be ready to surf 2-3 sessions a day. The local guides, Mateo and Buzz, dialed and styled us with hidden local spots and amazing home-cooked, fresh catch dinners.

To top it all, we had just as much fun hanging out in between sessions and exploring a relatively untouched side of Nicaragua as we did in the perfect, uncrowded surf with consistent off-shore winds all day and epic sunrise and sunset sessions. I left Nicaragua feeling like a stronger water woman and so grateful for the amazing friends, slice of Nica culture, and unforgettable memories to boot. This is a surfer’s paradise and retreat, and John and Sebastian provide phenomenal service bar none.

I just wanted to say thank you for hooking us up with Buzz. Buzz is AMAZING! We had a tough time getting down there with flight delays, missed connections, and lost luggage! When we got there we had nothing, but Buzz took care of us. He was so attentive to all our needs. He was up with us every morning making sure that the boat was on time and we had everything we needed. Can’t say enough good things about Buzz and the experience he provided. Super stoked on the trip and will definitely go back. Hope all is well and thanks again. If you are ever in Nor Cal please give me a shout.

Just made it back to SD after a grueling trip. But no complaints here. Augustine showed is all the sights around town and the volcano too. Luckily it was the other one that erupted. Ha! After earthquakes, tsunami warnings, volcanoes and epic double overhead Colorados, that was easily, hands-down the best surf trip I’ve ever had. It all wouldn’t have happened without you. Much appreciation for all your hospitality and generosity. I’ll make sure to drop off the shirt to Vince.

I am writing to share some candid feedback regarding Mark (Buzz) and my fresh 12 day stint. Mark redefined the gold standard for host/connector/packager, not to mention he’s just a really good guy. It’s easy to get nervous about getting taken advantage of or burning cycles trying to connect dots on international holidays, but Mark took care of everything so professionally.

Mark delivered 110% for me and my travel buddy:

He delivered the best tours and guides, made it seamless for us so we didn’t have to worry about a thing. He was crystal clear about what we were getting. From meals, to motos, day trips, photographers, and the optimal surf sessions – he didn’t miss one detail.

Mark checked on our comfort daily and made himself available at all times. His quality connections, knowledge, and availability made this one of my favorite trips.

It’s a pleasure to share this with you and those I’ll be catching up with back home.
